This qualification provides a trade outcome in painting and decorating for residential and commercial construction work.

 

Occupational titles may include:

  • Painter and decorator.

 

The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as two specialist fields of work.

 

The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context.

      When you complete the Certificate III in Painting and Decorating you will be ready for a certified trade career as a painter and decorator.

      You will gain the knowledge and skills to work with all manner of painting and decorating materials, prepare and protect surfaces, colour match, interpret plans, and apply Work Health and Safety requirements.

      This qualification provides a trade outcome in painting and decorating, covering work in residential and commercial applications.

      Average Course Duration: 

      For new entrants the average duration is 3 years.

      For experienced entrants, based on the experience of the student, the duration will vary between 1 - 1.5 years.

    • Prerequisites

      There are no formal entry requirements for this unit. However, all students will need to meet Language, Literacy & Numeracy and also Physical fitness requirements.

      Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement.
