This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

 

  • Overview

    This course is designed for all staff and contractors who are required to be on or work at any construction site.

    It includes information on workplace laws responsibilities and safety requirements to ensure that the holder is aware of safe work practices for construction.

    The course covers:

    • Overview of the Legislative Framework, the WHS Act, Regulations & Codes
    • Construction risks, hazards and control measures
    • Safety Practices and site specific requirements
    • Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Incident Response Procedures
    • Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Communication and Reporting Processes

    This course has been specifically tailored to the telecommunications industry but meets all national requirements for Construction Induction cards and delivers the CPCCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry national competency standard.

    Outcomes

    Students are issued with a Construction Induction White Card (WA) at successful completion of the course

    There are no formal entry requirements for this unit. However, all students will need to meet Language, Literacy & Numeracy and also Physical fitness requirements.
